Lemovicum was the capital of the Lemovices, Celtics of Central Europe, who settled down in our region between 400 and 700 before Christ. These people controlled a vast territory containing Limousin, Poitou and some islands of the Atlantic coast. In a official way, the name of Lemovices is translated by "those who win by the elm", the elm being the wood with which their lance was made.
